YOU'RE AWESOME!!

I'm literally bookmarking this article to my browser so I can find it quickly for references.

I'm about 2 years into perimenopause. When I first learned about it, about a year into this crazy roller coaster, the first thing that stuck in my head was "perimenopause can last up to 10 years!!" F*CK!!!! These 2 years have been the hardest mentally and physically in my life and I feel my body is just ramping up.

BUT with articles like this, a lot of research and literally rolling with the perimenopausal punches, I'm doing ok.

Thank you so much for so much information.

You're so very welcome, Allison!! I'm so very happy this article is helpful for you. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment and let me know. And I agree, the 10 years info is like 🤯 but hopefully the more we learn, the easier those years will be to navigate. 😊

Thanks for such an informative post Nicole. I'll check out the books, and I'd also recommend The Menopause Brain by Lisa Mosconi, I learned loads from it.

TV presenter Davina McCall has done a lot of campaigning in the UK on menopause and gotten a lot of public discussion going which has been really welcome. I did our annual staff survey today (large organisation HQed in the UK) and I was pleasantly surprised to find there was actually a set of questions all about perimenopause experience!

Thanks, Holly. I follow Dr. Mosconi but have not read her book I'll add it to my to-reads. I find her work in neuroscience so fascinating.

That's wonderful to hear about your staff survey! I don't work in the corporate world but my friends who do haven't seen much change around the menopause conversation her in the U.S., which is unfortunate.

That's a shame. I think some of the celebrity campaigning in the UK has actually made a big difference, I feel like just in the last few years it's become a thing to talk about more, at least in my age group/some corporate settings. Though still a bit of a taboo in some conversations and sadly I don't think the message is filtering down to younger women who could be better prepared than us if they were educated earlier.

Yes, I agree. Here in the US the discussion has ramped up but only in a certain age group and only in certain environments. I'd really like to see things like menopause care/benefits discussed in corporate settings and be taken seriously. Especially considering the stat about how many women will quit their jobs due to perimenopause symptoms.

The stats are scary aren't they? I hope it's a step-by-step process where opening up the discussion in some quarters gradually spreads knowledge and eventually it's out in the mainstream and something everyone's aware of.

For someone in their late 30s, this has been revelatory and I’m so grateful you have taken the time to share your research. As you rightly say, we have been denied an education about female -specific health and most of us are oblivious to the changes that we will face. I was completely oblivious to the term Perimenopause and now I’m aware I can take charge and self-edúcate and be better prepared for the changes i to come! Thank you Nicole! x

I'm so glad to hear this, Jess! It's infuriating how much we aren't taught but I'm hopeful that things are changing. And the more we talk about it with one another, the faster that happens. If you have even one friend this article can help, share it with her. ❤️

This is such a treasure trove of information, resources and research on a topic that we all have to deal with and learn so little about. Even seeing how few doctors are equipped to talk about this was 🤯. So grateful for the time you took to curate this guide that I can come back to again and again. Saved!

I'm glad!! Yes, the lack of doctor education is so infuriating! But I'm hopeful because of the doctors that I l=mentioned here. They are truly passionate about educating us all!

Nicole! I'm emotional reading this. Thank you so much for this beautifully written, thoughtful, detailed and resourceful article. It makes me so sad that we aren't exposed to this information sooner, and I simultaneously feel so much gratitude that you've curated all this information for us. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I feel so empowered reading this and am excited to explore these resources more. I also feel more motivated to improve my workout routine! Just wow...I'll be sharing with everyone I know.

I'm so glad you love it. It is truly maddening and so sad that we are not taught about any of this. The positive is that it's starting to get more of a spotlight. (Because of course corporation have come to realize there's money to be made, but whatever). And so people are starting to pay more attention. I just can't help thinking about generations past who didn't have the benefit of all this knowledge. All the more reason for us to learn about AND talk about what we now know. <3

Absolutely 💛 I'm thinking about past generations too. I'm grateful for this info now!
