I so resonate with what you've shared here Nicole! I'm not above doing all the youth enhancing things like botox, facials, skincare routines and even facial yoga 😆 but at some point we age and and it's hard. And I think more than just combatting it, there's a big meaningful conversation around why it's hard, what it means, and how we can cope. Thank you for starting that here!
Thank you for sharing! Right, our culture's obsession with youth makes us feel like shit when we are no longer young. And it seems no matter how much we know, how educated we are, how much we want to believe in our own beauty...there is something that gets in our way of truly accepting that we are still beautiful, still desirable, still exceptional once our faces and bodies begin to change. Like, why is it that I BELIEVE that my friends are beautiful with their graying hair and wrinkles and expanding waistlines but I cannot BELIEVE that about myself with these same things happening???
Nicole! Thank you so much for being so honest and vulnerable about this. I resonate with this deeply. While I'd love to say that I love my wrinkles and graying hair, the truth is, I'm not there right now. I don't have the answer, but I'm sitting with your share and feel very grateful you put this out there.
I'm glad you liked it! It was hard to write because part of me understands the vanity in it. But honestly, society does not recognize ageing as beautiful and that is hard to handle. 😕
100 percent. Especially when you realize that you're not alone in feeling this way. It's so easy to feel like we're too much of feminists to be allowed to have these feelings. But that's not true.
That's such a great point, Jasmine! Trying to remove the judgment is probably a really important first step. I'm not great at that, but I will start trying. I also recently heard someone say that when she starts having these feelings, she stops and says to herself: How can I love myself more right now?
I think that is a really beautiful way to think about it. And it ties into your selfcare/self esteem builder ideas. Meaning, the answer to that question could be going on a long walk, taking an exercise class, doing some skincare, listening to a podcast, etc. Maybe we all need to keep our "Love Yourself" list so we can easily pick something from the list whenever we need to.

Definitely! I think having these conversations is a big part of accepting ourselves in a deeper way.

That would be wonderful! Thank you.
